This year has delivered so much that I am truly grateful. I have a wonderful healthy daughter who has learned to sleep thought the night very quickly. I have a wonderful wife who puts up with my mad ravings. I have new assignment surrounded by some of the best officers I have known. It is a privilege to serve with them and an honor to lead them.
I would like to extend my thanks to those who have joined me for some great discussions in the wee hours of the morning. I have lost count of the cigars smoked and coffee drank over philosophical conversation this year.

This blog will focus on issues in law enforcement, constitutional rights, religion/atheism, skepticism and politics from the perspective of a 12 year police veteran. Many of these issues are easily talked about in the vacuum of the politicians and talking heads but those of us out on the street (including the public) must face the consequences of their decisions. I hope to generate discussion on the issues raised. I encourage people with differing opinions to post their thoughts.

- I am an 12 year veteran on a Denver metro area police department. I am currently assigned as a patrol Sergeant. I have served as an FTO, Detective in Crimes Against Persons and the Crime Lab. I also attended Denver Seminary for three years and ended up an atheist. See my post dated 11-8-07 for more on my de-conversion. I have come to believe that there was great value to having lived life as part of the "religious right,” but after taking the time to truly examine my beliefs, their foundations and the world as I know it, I found myself far from where I started. I hope to challenge everyone to examine the assumptions they have made in their religious/political/world view belief systems and see if there is more to life that they thought. I plan on covering topics on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, Issues in Law Enforcement, Religion/Atheism as well as science and skepticism. I strongly encourage readers to post comments and engage in dialogue on these topics.
